The East 8th Street Access Ramp over the Belt Parkway was a 65+ year old bridge which provided access for traffic to the westbound Belt Parkway. It was replaced with a new structure. The new bridge meets current safety standards and includes an improved walking and biking path. In addition, the project included construction of three new piers, excavation of approach roadways, installation of new concrete barriers along the Belt Parkway, and installation of new steel girders. The concrete portion of the bridge deck consisted of a technically precise 7-stage pour sequence to allow for camber and haunch calculations. The project was completed November 2011.
