The project included reconstructing, widening, and extending Scotch Road across the Route I-95 Interchange. It is a clover-leaf interchange. Utilizing innovative design tools, the overpass was constructed with High Performance Concrete, and the abutment support was constructed with mechanically stabilized earth wall and steel piles.
To accomplish the interchange reconstruction and provide for future development along Scotch Road, numerous utility accommodations and relocations were required. This project was the first NJDOT project to use high performance weathering steel. Using this material allowed for the elimination of an entire girder line and provided greater flexibility in the construction staging.
