    Tonnelle Ave

    Client: New Jersey Transit Authority

Ferreira Construction received the first construction contract in May to build a $13.6 railroad underpass at Tonnelle Avenue in North Bergen, near the site of what was to be the ARC Project. The project called for the construction of a new railroad underpass under Route 1/9 (box beam bridge) to accommodate a new NJ Transit rail track alignment, as part of the ARC Tunnel Project.

After the ARC Tunnel cancellation, the project scope was modified to backfill & road restoration, relocation of utilities, demolition and associated abatement of a 200,000sf structure and construction of a new railroad embankment immediately west of Tonnelle Avenue, site restoration, and site remediation of PCB contamination and soil contamination.
