On June 28, 2024, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) awarded Ferreira Construction the contract to restore the beloved Roger Wheeler Beach, a favorite destination for generations of families in southern New England. The project involves replacing the deteriorating 1,200-foot-long steel sheet bulkhead with a new structure.

Ferreira Construction will partner with American Pile and Foundation to build a new concrete boardwalk and bulkhead. RIDEM’s goals for the project include enhancing public safety, improving access, preserving recreational areas, restoring natural habitats, and creating scenic coastal views.

The work is set to begin in October 2024 and is expected to be completed by December 31, 2025.
