National Grid 701 Line

Location:
Buffalo-Niagara International Airport, New York

Owner:
National Grid

Year Completed:
2022

Ferreira Atlantic was the prime contractor and coordinated our customer, National Grid, the NFTA, FAA, and our subcontractors to perform a bore at the southwestern corner of the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport.  The project included installing entry and exit bore pits on NFTA property within the runway protective zone to perform a 36-inch Horizontal Directional Drill under NY route 338, the NYS Kensington Expressway, and the on-ramp to the Kensington Expressway.

A 24-inch casing pipe was pulled back through the bore and an electrical conduit bundle was installed within the casing pipe.  To complete the project Ferreira Atlantic had internal and external grout installed throughout the bore path and then installed two manhole vaults to interconnect to National Grid’s existing electrical infrastructure.
