The expansion of La Pata Avenue was planned to ease traffic congestion and improve emergency response times. The construction required the widening of the existing 1.8-mile portion of La Pata Avenue from three to five lanes. The project also included adding two miles of new four-lane roadway connecting La Pata with Camino Del Rio S. Ferreira Coastal installed right of way fencing and guardrail along the new gap closure road, various types of fences and railings at and on the new bridges, cable railing on retaining walls, and ornamental iron fence and gates.
