Port Authority of New York & New Jersey George Washington Bridge Suspender Ropes
Location:
New York City, New York
Owner:
Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ)
Year Completed:
2022
PANYNJ has a $1.92 billion, 10-year plan to overhaul the 90-year-old George Washington Bridge (GWB). The GWB is not only the busiest bridge in the U.S. but the busiest bridge in the world, with more than a quarter of a million motor vehicles passing over the bridge every single day. Ferreira is currently working as a subcontractor on the Suspender Rope Replacement project and has been contracted to demolish an old pedestrian bridge that leads onto the New Jersey side of the GWB and replace it with a new one. This new walkway spans over 1,700 feet improving both bicycle and pedestrian access and public safety. In addition to building the pedestrian bridge, Ferreira’s scope of work also includes the construction of a retaining wall, drainage improvements, site improvements, and realignment of the Palisades Interstate Parkway (PIP Roadway).
