As part of Electric Transmission Pipe Enhancement initiative, ConEd invested millions of dollars into upgrading their underground transmission system. The bulk of the underground system consist of 138kV feeders encased in steel pipe surrounded by high-pressure dielectric fluid. All pipe enhancements were performed without disruption to customers and other active utilities. Ferreira’s scope of work included 27,324 LF of pipe repair/abatement which are filled with dielectric oil to pull heat away from the conductors. Ferreira also performed excavation of roadways and sidewalks to allow for pipe exposure, support of excavation, environmental remediation of the asbestos wrapped pipes, inspection and repairing of the pipes if needed, rewrapping the remitted piping, and site restoration.
